Graduates of eligible non-accredited dental specialty programs who are interested in becoming licensed specialists in Canada may apply to take the Dental Specialty Core Knowledge Examination (DSCKE). The DSCKE will be used by Canadian Faculties of dentistry as part of the admission process for entry into Dental Specialty Assessment and Training Programs.

The DSCKE consists of four components written over two days covering the following areas: Core Biomedical and Dental Sciences, Scientific Literature Appraisal Skills, Core Clinical Sciences, and Patient Management, Part A and Part B.

Checklists for each specialty have been developed as a guide to assist potential applicants in evaluating whether or not their specialty training meets basic criteria for admission. For more detailed information about the curriculum content, competencies, objectives and outcomes, evaluation methodology and teaching methods, amongst many other requirements, of accredited Canadian specialty programs consult the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada’s website:
www.cda-adc.ca/cdacweb/en/accreditation_requirements/dental_specialties/.

There are currently a very limited number of Dental Specialty Assessment and Training Programs available in Canada, and successful completion of the DSCKE does not guarantee entry into these programs.
