McGill University invites nominations, applications, and expressions of interest for the position of Dean, Faculty of Dentistry. Reporting to the Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) and as a member of the senior academic team, the new Dean will have an opportunity to deepen the Faculty’s reputation for excellence in oral health education and research, and service to the greater community.
The Dean will join an environment that is home to an impressive cadre of scholars. Dentistry researchers at McGill investigate a broad range of oral health issues at the clinical and basic science levels, with many interdisciplinary collaborations occurring within and outside the University. Dentistry at McGill is home to a number of centres, institutes, and facilities, and its educational programs and clinics enable students and professionals to attain the highest levels of competence in the field. The Faculty is distinguished by its goal to promote oral health for the whole population, through excellence in research and training combined with a focus on public policy and community outreach, and serves as a model for other dentistry schools nationwide. The ideal candidate has a background of teaching, research, clinical, and professional experience consistent with the expectations of a Dean at a world-class research university. The candidate also has a successful record of senior leadership in a complex institution, familiarity with fundraising and public engagement, and experience with budgetary management. A consultative and collegial leadership style, a natural service orientation, excellent communication skills, and an approach that earns trust and respect, are essential. The Dean possesses a degree in dentistry and a professional designation, and a record of accomplishment consistent with appointment at the rank of Full Professor. A post-graduate degree is considered an asset. The ability to work in both English and French, or a willingness to develop skills in both languages, is preferred.
