Vice Dean & Director

The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University, is inviting applications for the position of Vice Dean & Director, Schulich Dentistry.

The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is one of Canada’s preeminent medical and dental schools. Established in 1881, it was one of the founding schools of Western University and is known for being the birthplace of family medicine in Canada. For more than 130 years, the School has demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and a passion for scientific discovery.

Schulich Dentistry is one of two dental schools in Ontario and one of ten in Canada. At Schulich Dentistry, we prepare qualified graduates to provide dental care as well as generate knowledge through clinical research, basic science research and other scholarly activities. We also provide oral health care to the public through our on-site clinics and our community outreach programs, specifically, Dental Outreach and dental pre- and post-doctoral educational programs.

The successful candidate should have demonstrated a strong track record of leadership, research, education and clinical care excellence with a proven reputation for effective interpersonal and administrative skills. He/she will possess at least 5 years of demonstrated senior administrative leadership with particular strengths in the areas of engagement, communication, collaboration, quality improvement, service delivery, performance excellence, and program management structures. He/she will have a track record of publications in the highest quality academic outlets, and will be a recognized expert in his or her discipline.

The successful candidate will oversee governance of Schulich Dentistry, all aspects of dental education, have a clearly defined vision that fits with Western as being a research-intensive university and build an environment that fosters a positive morale amongst faculty, staff and students. He/she will preferably be a clinician or clinician scientist and hold a DDS, PhD/DDS or equivalent, and be eligible for full or academic licensure within the Province of Ontario. In exceptional circumstances, an outstanding PhD candidate with commensurate experience in dental education may be considered.

The successful candidate will hold an academic appointment at the rank of Professor (preferred) or Associate Professor with Tenure. Compensation for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. He/she will be appointed to the Vice Dean & Director role for a five year term and will report directly to the Dean of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. There is a possibility of renewal for one additional term. Anticipated start date is January 1st, 2017 or as negotiated.
