The selected candidate will be expected to conduct world-class independent research, successfully compete for external grant funding, and contribute to a dynamic research and training environment at McGill. Job Duties:
Successful applicants will be expected to:
- Develop and maintain a funded research program of the highest international standards in the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences and disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and other knowledge translation activities.
- Supervise graduate (MSc, PhD) students at the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences
- Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining and enhancing excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate education.
- Contribute to the oral microbiology curriculum and provide teaching activities at DMD in microbiology,
- Provide guidance in infection control in the Faculty labs and clinics
- Participate in service to the Faculty, university and academic community.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Applicants must have a PhD and at least a one-year postdoctoral experience in Microbiology or related field. Candidates who additionally hold a DMD or DDS degrees are strongly encouraged to apply.
An outstanding record of research/scholarly activities: A record of research funding, quality of publications in top ranked, internationally recognized journals, presentations at significant national and international conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements by referees of international stature. Applicants with a research program focused on other aspects of microbiology with relevance to oral health will also be considered.
In accordance with career stage, candidates are expected to demonstrate evidence of high quality and excellence in teaching and supervision of MSc, PhD students.

Applications are invited for two (2) full-time positions in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The successful candidates will be appointed to Limited Term academic appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Schulich School of Dentistry. The successful candidate will be appointed for a term of up to 5 years. The successful candidate may have a 50% reduced workload to allow the successful candidate to perform 50% clinical service at London Health Sciences Centre and/or St. Joseph’s Health Care London, subject to the approval(s) of the appointments by the hospitals. Depending on qualifications, including a sufficiently strong track record in research, teaching and/or administration will be considered for an appointment at a higher rank. This position would be effective July 1, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is housed within the Schulich School of Dentistry and the Teaching Hospitals of Western University, which include Victoria and University Hospitals of the London Health Sciences Centre as well as St. Joseph’s Health Care. Facilities include clinics in the hospitals, operating room access and a state of the art out-patient operating room facility within the School of Dentistry.
Candidates must possess a DDS/DMD degree or equivalent; have postgraduate specialist training in oral surgery; FRCD(C) certification (or eligibility) and fellowship training in an OMFS sub-specialty is preferred. The successful candidate will be eligible to apply for and maintain an active appointment with London Health Sciences Centre / St. Joseph’s Health Care, Department of Dentistry | LHSC and be eligible for full licensure within the Province of Ontario, subject to the approval(s) of the hospitals. Teaching and research experience required, and administration experience would be an asset.
The successful candidate will also have a commitment to and demonstrated aptitude for teaching and will be expected to teach both didactically and clinically and will serve as a course director. The incumbent will be responsible for the supervision and evaluation of undergraduate dental students, dental clinical fellows and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residents assigned to the affiliated teaching hospitals. This position will be compensated by an academic salary for the academic component and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. THE OPPORTUNITY
The Director, Periodontology Graduate Program provides leadership in the Periodontology Graduate Program in the areas of didactic and clinical teaching, overall program curriculum, clinical program administration, clinical experiences, patient care, student research, and external relations with the dental community.
Term of Appointment:
Five (5) years, with potential for renewal following discussion with the Chair, School of Dentistry; the length of the second term may be dependent on the needs of the School and the incumbent but will not exceed five (5) years. Following the second term, the position will be subject to a search and selection process.
The Director, Periodontology Graduate Program position has a 0.2 FTE designated administrative time allocation.
THE PERSON
Education: DDS or equivalent degree from an accredited dental faculty/school and graduate level (MSc or preferably PhD) specialty training in periodontology.
Licensure: Must be eligible for registration with the Alberta Dental Association and College as a certified specialist in periodontics and have completed the FRCDC or equivalent specialty qualification in periodontics.
Experience: Significant experience in periodontology graduate student clinical and didactic teaching. Established research focus with peer-reviewed funding and significant publication record.
Demonstrated administrative experience in coordinating a graduate clinical program, staff supervision and financial management preferred.
Skills: Strong management skills, effective communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, good computer skills.
Other: Strong leadership and analytic capabilities. Ability to manage multiple demands and interruptions while adhering to strict deadlines.
Demonstrated collaborative approach to planning, implementing and evaluating progress.

Successful candidates will be required to have potential for teaching excellence in Pedodontics, research experience and the ability to contribute to the development of knowledge and to collaborate with researchers from various disciplines.

1. Have a DMD or DDS or equivalent;
2. Hold or be eligible for a license by l’Ordre des dentistes du Québec (ODQ);
3. Hold a graduate specialty degree in Pedodontics or be in the process of obtaining one;
4. Hold or commit to obtain a Master of Science degree; the candidate who holds a PhD in science or demonstrates an interest in pursuing studies at a PhD level will be highly considered;
5. Demonstrate teaching skills and be able to teach in French or make arrangements to become proficient in French within reasonable time;
6. Have demonstrated pedagogical skills and an interest in research and teaching.

The UBC Faculty of Dentistry invites applications for a full-time faculty position.
The appointment will be at the rank of Lecturer.The successful applicant will primarily provide instruction to and oversight of students within the DMD curriculum focusing on clinical teaching, patient treatment and student clinical practice management. They will support and mentor 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year dental students as they experience the bulk of their clinical education in the UBC Integrated General Practice clinic and affiliated Community/Hospital clinical settings. This will be done in collaboration with the following individuals: Associate Dean Clinical Affairs, Associate Dean Academic, Director of DMD Curriculum, and other DMD Module Coordinators.
The successful applicant will be expected to work collaboratively with faculty members in the various educational divisions within the faculty as a clinical instructor, clinical supervisor, and module coordinator. The candidate will help establish a strong patient-centred and evidence-based clinical curriculum for general practice, that supports didactic and clinical skills taught in the discipline-specific modules.
In addition, the successful applicant will be expected to participate in the academic life and teach/supervise learners in the Faculty of Dentistry. They will be expected to be an innovative clinical teacher who will integrate technologies and new approaches to learning into our curriculum. The successful individual should possess exceptional communication and problem-solving skills, be able to work effectively and contribute within a team environment, and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders. Preference will be given to an individual with current and active experience in instructing, coaching and mentoring students in clinical setting and those that operate from a solid understanding of patient care and dental practice.
Applicants must have a DDS/DMD degree and be licensed (or eligible) with the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia. Applicants should have at least 3 years of clinical experience. Salary is subject to standards within the Faculty of Dentistry based on clinical teaching and oversight. The successful candidate will be appointed to a Full-time Probationary (tenure-track) or Full-time Limited Term faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Qualified applicants will have a DDS/DMD degree (or equivalent), as well as training in an advanced specialty program in Paediatric Dentistry granting them an MSc, PhD, or equivalent graduate degree. Candidates must hold or be eligible to hold a Specialty Certificate of Registration with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO).
The successful candidate will participate in the teaching and service activities of the dental school, particularly its Paediatric Dentistry division, and will be considered for cross-appointment in departments within and outside of the School. In addition to clinical teaching, it is expected that the candidate will participate in curriculum design renewal, monitoring of student clinical progression and participation in faculty calibration and development. For those in the tenure-track position, the candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an externally funded research program and should have a record of achievement in research appropriate for their stage of career. Any area of dental research can apply, although preference will be given to applicants with a record of research relevant to the specialty of Paediatric Dentistry.
Successful candidates should possess a demonstrated aptitude for leadership as well as teaching and clinical mentoring of junior colleagues, students, or residents in either community dental practice or institutional programs. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language and must be willing to work in a collaborative manner in both teaching and administration. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The opportunity for private practice is afforded by the provision of a consulting privilege of one day per week.
