ACFD Bridge Training to Dental Practice in Canada

Welcome to the new ACFD Bridge Training to Dental Practice in Canada Program

This program is for graduates of a minimum four-year recognised university dental program who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada on or before the deadline date for application, set to open February 1, 2025.

You will have successfully completed and passed the National Dental Examining Board of Canada (NDEB) Assessment of Fundamental Knowledge (AFK) and Assessment of Clinical Judgment (ACJ) components of the NDEB Equivalency Process within 3 years, and will have met the minimum proficiency requirements in both written and spoken English or French.

The initial pilot program will be offered in three locations: Alberta at the University of Alberta, Nova Scotia at the Dalhousie University, and Québec at the l’Université Laval. The exact location where you will undertake training if successful, will be determined during the application process. The program is anticipated to be completed within eight months.

Please note that this program is currently in development and will undergo pilot testing and evaluation for two years. Consequently, the fees posted for the application process in 2025 and the program in 2025–2026, are for the first pilot year of the program only. Fees for the second pilot year in 2026 may differ significantly.

  • Application: $250
  • Assessment: $500
  • Training: $10,000

During the first pilot year of the BTDPC program, to obtain licensure to practice in Canada, candidates completing the program will need to write and pass the NDEB NDECC. However, for the second pilot year in 2026–2027, this may change, as the program evolves.
